Slave Company Chapter 101 [Monster Tamer] Secret

These 5 were currently Avian’s main monsters he was cultivating or training with his [Train Monster] ability.

For the past 1 month he had been solely or largely focused on understanding and practicing his [Monster Tamer] blessing.

Luckily, his [Monster Tamer] blessing wasn’t like his [Hemomancer] blessing where there was no knowledge about it. Unfortunately, Avian had already dug out and researched any bit of knowledge the royal castle had about the [Monster Tamer] blessing he had which was not too helpful.

There was barely any knowledge regarding Rank 2 [Monster Tamers] and don’t even mention Rank 3 as those don’t even seem to exist as no one seemed to have reportedly reached Rank 3 as a [Monster Tamer].

Avian mostly, just like he did with his [Hemomancer] blessing had to make his own conclusions and understanding of how everything worked precisely.

He started from the bare fundamentals which was the [Train Monster] ability.

Standing in front of him were his 5 monsters that he was training.

They hadn’t moved once since they were summoned. The others noticed that Avian was doing something with his monsters and were watching interestingly. They wondered why nothing was happening and why they were standing still. But that was the point as Avian had taught all these 5 monsters that they should not do anything upon being summoned by Avian without explicitly told otherwise.

This was the result of his training and it worked extremely well as all his monsters sat there patiently waiting for Avian. After another minute or so Avian decided that it was enough.

Giving them the permission to move again the monsters immediately went to do what they wanted with the Earth Lizard and Baby Roc looking around curiously exploring their surroundings while the Silver Elk just went to a nearby juicy looking plant that was influenced by Dahlia’s [Plant Growth] spell earlier eating it with a very satisfied expression or at least that’s what Avian could tell its face meant.

The Horned Rabbit and Crowned Crow on the other hand immediately went to Avian’s side the moment they were given permission with the Horned Rabbit immediately jumping up to Avian who caught it making the Horned Rabbit lick Avian’s hand in a show of affection.

The Crowned Crow did the same. Perching onto Avian’s shoulder like many of his other tamed bird creatures in the past did. Rubbing itself on the side of its head.

This crow was a very unique crow that Avian had found and captured at the same time as he had done so to this Horned Rabbit. It possessed a strange crown on its head that was completely white contrasting with its jet black body. This crown was made out of bone actually and was similar to a horn. It indicated the fact that this Crow was special as it was also called a Royal Crow which all other crows followed making it a sort of natural pack leader.

Crowned Crows were actually famous and very sought after creatures for some nobles as they represented true nobility because of their natural ability to control any crow in the vicinity and were also thought to be extremely lucky with everyone around them sharing the same luck.

Obviously Crowned Crows were exotic luxury pets and weren’t nearly as expensive as Roc eggs not even reaching 1/5 of their value. But they were still worth a lot. For Avian who liked money he could have sold this Crowned Crow since he didn’t really care if it was a special crow or not since he merely caught it because it looked unique. But later he decided he would keep it to train since he had it.

Now.

It was understandable why Avian was keeping and training the baby Roc, Earth Lizard and Silver Elk since they were pretty decent monsters and very useful to him. With the Earth Lizard being mainly responsible for dragging their carriage while the Silver Elk was fast and could be used as an emergency mount or additional pack mule in the forest where it could traverse more easily.

Nothing needed to be said about the baby Roc who was as strong as a Rank 1 Dark Wolf only after a week it was born. Once it fully grew up they could all use it as a flying mount making their mobility even greater.

But what about this Horned Rabbit and Crowned Crow?

Why did Avian pick them up and also trained them to be one of his main monsters to train?

Logically small and weak creatures like the Horned Rabbit and the Crowned Crow were not worth training. Avian himself used to think that it was useless to tame such creatures which is why he tamed birds instead since they could at least give him a distraction while he dealt with anyone by himself piercing a hole into their body.

What made him change this thought?

Well it all started when Avian started training his 3 main monsters.

Having already some experience with it through his many tamed birds he had a basic understanding of how [Train Monster] worked and how to use it.

Avian had already explained it before but to refresh.

This ability only worked on creatures that were under the command of the [Monster Tamer].

What it did was what it said.

Through giving the monster an order and showing it how it’s done the monster could be trained to learn certain actions and associated it with the order to make the monster perform that action.

The [Monster Tamer] could also make it stronger by training it physically.

The last part was a bit ambiguous as Avian learned that how a monster grew stronger through training depended on both the trainer’s methods of training and the monster’s own intelligence and understanding of what the trainer wanted from it.

The first part Avian had already used many times by associating certain orders to his birds with whistles hand movements or certain unique shouts.

Monsters trained this way would never forget the action they were taught by their [Monster Tamer] not until they reached their limit that is as each monster clearly had a limit to the amount of actions they could learn which was likely connected with their intelligence.

Crows or any bird creatures in this instance could only learn 3 to 5 unique actions before it was too much for them and they had to unlearn a certain action to learn a new action.

Usually the action they unlearned was the one they had learned first before going through the same sequence whenever they learned new actions replacing the oldest one going forward.

Learning the action had also certain restrictions as it had to be something the monster could actually do and understand. Having the monster fetch the item the [Monster Tamer] pointed at for example was not a problem.

But verbally telling the monster that they wanted them to fetch a specific item with a certain shape or color was difficult as they could not understand something so complex with their primitive brains.

But this all had to do with intelligence as smarter creatures could easily do it. The Baby Roc for example and the Silver Elk at least were able to do it once Avian taught them what they name of each color was and the concept of shapes. The Earth Lizard was not as smart as it could barely learn a few elementary colors before it became tired and overwhelmed.

Through this Avian was able to teach the baby Roc to fetch him certain items just by telling him to which the Silver Elk imitated without an issue.

But this is where everything ended as even the baby Roc and the Silver Elk had limits to their intelligence because they were beasts. Other than learning some simple or complex tricks they could not learn anything more which is exactly what Avian called this stage of the ability.

[Learn Trick].

What Avian really wanted was to replicate what Alvin did. The [Monster Tamer] from 500 years ago who started out as an unimpressive but physically gifted lumberjack before instantly turning into history’s strongest [Monster Tamer] recorded getting the moniker the Wolf King.

More specifically Avian wanted to understand how Alvin was able to get a giant wolf under his control that killed many experienced high ranking adventurers by itself before it was slain.

The records of that event were very precise. The adventurers hired for this quest were no push overs as they rightfully deserved the classification of high-level since most of them were Rank 2 and a few of them were Rank 3.

The giant wolf that Alvin had tamed was 5 meters tall, 5 meters wide and 20 meters long almost as big or bigger not as tall as a Roc who were 7 to 8 meters tall. But at least just as tall as a Wailing Troll which was also 5 meters tall.

The high ranking adventurers party lost 4 of their party members before they were able to slay the giant wolf.

That is when they were finally able to get to Alvin who was hiding behind the wolves.

Common sense or rather the first condition of the [Control Monster] dictated that the [Monster Tamer] could never tame any creature that was above their rank or power and that they had to use their power to subdue the monster by force to tame them.

Any other method such as using underhanded tricks to weaken the creature would not work and fail taming them. Only pure power was allowed with parties being equal.

That is how Avian had done it as there was no way around this from his experience.

But Alvin was not strong. Even though he was physically gifted and a lot stronger than ordinary people while also being a lumberjack before which build him more strength. He was not nearly or even slightly close as strong as the giant wolf he had under his command. The adventurers killed him easily what ensued next was a tragedy as Alvin send all his remaining wolves to assault the city that had send the adventurers after him destroying half the city even though the wolves should have been released from his control.

The last part was not something Avian was concerned about what really concerned him and the historians of the past is how Alvin was able to tame such a powerful wolf when it shouldn’t have been possible.

Many speculated that Alvin may have encountered a special situation that allowed him to do this when he was in the forest.

But there was no proof of that. Avian himself doubted it as well since he couldn’t imagine what kind of encounter or discovery that could be.

No. Instead Avian focused more on the blessing itself was likely the cause.

Maybe Alvin had reached a rank no [Monster Tamer] had reached before that allowed him to do something that negated the conditions of [Control Monster].

Another rank meant new abilities and new abilities meant new possibilities. Avian could not deny this. But he felt this was wrong as well which is where he finally stopped and considered the root or the beginning trying to image himself as Alvin and what he could have done.

Alvin was by no means a smart man. He would have never died the way he did if he was smart. He was a common brute who only understood simple things like swinging his axe. Which was not a bad thing exactly as it was direct and efficient in a sense.

Avian strongly believed through thinking and pondering about this a lot that the answer actually lied in the [Train Monster] ability and nothing more.

The ability itself was capable of physically training the monster to make it stronger naturally. This enhancement was small and it took time. Most people believed that the only use of [Train Monster] was to teach the monsters tricks.

But Alvin’s example was a blatant contradiction to this belief.

Mentioning an earlier topic where Avian wondered if Alvin reached an unknown rank for [Monster Tamers] like Rank 3. Getting new abilities that could have caused this. Avian already thought this was wrong. But the reason he thought so was because it didn’t make sense considering history and how much time Alvin really spent as a [Monster Tamer].

Raising the rank of the [Monster Tamer] blessing wasn’t that easy after all. Even Avian only was able to do it because he tamed a strong monster while he was unranked. Normally the way [Monster Tamers] raised their proficiency to rank up was through training their monsters and nothing more. Taming them also gave proficiency towards their rank up. But not a lot. Avian’s rank up was the exception since the amount of proficiency he got from taming the baby Roc who was Rank 1 from birth plus the small amount of proficiency from his previously tamed birds, Earth Lizard, Silver Elk and their training all was barely enough to accommodate Avian’s rank up to Rank 1 [Monster Tamer].

Knowing all this and how really Avian had taken a shortcut and considering the time Alvin had and his situation.

Avian had no doubt that when Alvin was called the Wolf King and had the giant wolf tamed.

He couldn’t have been anything beyond a Rank 1 [Monster Tamer]!
