David The Gray Mage Chapter 39 Instant Victory

-I forfeit, Take it!

Without even saying another word Mishalka, after losing the first round immediately came up to Valentia and forfeited the entire match while wiping out her student id card which was a red crystal card making it a different color compared to David’s.

Valentia seeing the indignant expression of Mishalka simply smiled before also pulling out her student id which was the same red color, from this David immediately came to the conclusion that different years had likely different student id cards that changed with color.

Next they touched cards with each other and a faint glow enveloped both of their cards for a second before they parted, Valentia’s smile only seemed to deepen while Mishalka started to look slightly depressed.

David and Gehena observed all of this, and before they knew it Mishalka turned around and looked at Gehena, her expression clearly showing her silent anger before speaking.

-Gehena, we’re leaving.

-…

Gehena didn’t say anything in return, she glanced back at David though feeling regretful and slightly unwilling to leave, after all she had gotten a perfect opportunity to continue converse with David, but Mishalka wasn’t someone she could easily go against, Gehena quickly tried to find a way to reserve a meeting with David before she had to leave.

-Ehm…David…your mana control was really impressive…if it isn’t too much trouble could you.

-David!

Unfortunately, even this attempt was foiled as Valentia called out for David momentarily pulling his attention and interrupting Gehena, Mishalka was also already on the way and now Gehena started to get frustrated at not only Mishalka but also Valentia.

David didn’t notice such thing and saw Mishalka walk towards them, he didn’t want to be in her presence since she was clearly very angry at the moment, taking the opportunity from when Valentia called for him David decided to quickly walk away while saying goodbye to Gehena.

-Goodbye Gehena, again it was a nice game and it was nice to meet you.

-Urgh…likewise.

At last Gehena could only muster a exhausted smile before watching David run off, while he ran Mishalka gave David a look, her desire to possess him only heighted when she came to know how incredibly talented he was, he not only had looks he also possessed the ability, and while Mishalka was a bit mad that it was because of David that they lost, she couldn’t really hate or resent him for that for some reason as she was too attracted to him to make such emotions materialize, this lead to Mishalka silently pondering on how to acquire David as more schemes formed in her mind before she left together with Gehena and Mimir.

Mimir hadn’t spoken since she got pulled by those balls, the entire time she held her nose while he eyes were red with rage as she glared at both David and Valentia, in a sense she was scarier to David then Mishalka who was likely more harmful, Valentia too noted her gaze as she watched them leave.

As for everyone else who wasn’t involved in the game and were just watching. Even though it was a simple game for some reason the crowd felt it to be extremely exciting as they witnessed astounding an amount of skill from Valentia’s team with great acrobatics from Mishalka’s, after seeing David’s ability nobody doubted that they would lose at this point and seeing how out of breath Mishalka and her 2 teammates were the next two rounds were likely going to end far quicker than the first.

Still people were going to stay to continue watching and Mishalka knew that as she quickly came to terms with the fact that she had without doubt lost, this is why she quickly and silently forfeited to avoid continue making a fool of herself while she still could.

People too quickly caught on that Mishalka had likely forfeited after seeing the obvious disparity in skill, and while she lost people still didn’t feel like making fun of her seeing how David was the one who went against her, making fun of her now would only provoke others to attack them by asking whether or not they could win against David and no one was stupid enough to play against David.

Instead everyone discussed David’s insane mana control ability, they all tried to think of how it was possible for David to be so skilled, seeing that a human could only really start practicing magic at the age of 15 in this world, David must have had only a few months’ time of practice in their mind when in reality he had more than a decade worth of practice.

Some people even wanted to approach David and ask him, some even had the intention of making connections with David as they noticed he was likely going to be very successful in the future, and also without needing to explain why, 99% of these students were female making it clear that there were a lot of other intentions as well.

Valentia caught these intentions almost instantly as she saw the shining eyes of those female lions, Valentia knew that dealing with them was going to be difficult as they were all nobles, and since David was a commoner even if social status didn’t matter in this academy it didn’t mean it didn’t matter in the outside world, having an argument with nobles of foreign kingdoms was fine since their influence didn’t reach another kingdom such as Grann, but domestic nobles were a whole other issue as they had control in their home kingdom, usually nobody approached Valentia as she would always release aura to isolate everyone, but in the end she was still just a unknown foreign noble, domestic nobles weren’t entirely mindful her and just avoided her since she was a pain and not worth dealing with, David made dealing with Valentia worth it as he was just a commoner with no influence who couldn’t easily say no to a domestic noble, Mishalka was already a slight problem as she clearly had David in her crosshair, this match would only strengthen the mark she put on David, to stop that she was going to ask Syndra for help as she already had a bad relation with Mishalka and would have likely helped even if they didn’t.

Honestly at these times she would have liked to use her family prestige to stop them from coming, but since she was in a foreign kingdom and couldn’t reveal her identity without causing some international incident, in the end Valentia had no other choice but to try shield David from those conversations while walking with her hand around David to the exit.

The only thing was, Valentia was hesitant about touching David without his consent, it was the kind of common sense David knew but only in reverse, she already hugged him because she was a bit too excited, he didn’t seem to mind then, but she didn’t know if she could do it again and whether or not he wouldn’t mind then either.

He already had touched her 2 times so intimately and didn’t seem to mind then either, but Valentia still didn’t know, honestly she simply didn’t want David to think of her as a pervert if she suddenly touched him for a good reason like he did, after all David touching her wasn’t considered perverted.

As she was thinking as much hesitating, David already saw a lot of people coming to them almost all of them female, seeing this many woman coming at once with a glint in their eyes stirred a tiny amount of trauma he had from the past, he stiffened up a bit but didn’t panic as he got a lot better now, instead he snapped out and looked towards Valentia about to suggest that they should leave.

Fortunately, they didn’t have to do that as a cold mist quickly enveloped everyone and blocked their vision, the crowd was immediately surprised and soon enough a lot of spells started to flash about trying to make the mist disappear.

Valentia seeing the mist recognized it as she had seen it before a lot, David too vaguely knew  a person who could do this and is if being called down by their thoughts two arms reached out and grabbed both Valentia and David by their hands.

Surprised they quickly raised their heads to see who it was; David was first to react to as he smiled brightly before saying.

-Syndra!

Syndra revealing herself, too smiled sweetly towards David as she had come just in time.

-Let’s leave the mist Isn’t going to last for even a minute.

Both Valentia and David agreed following Syndra by hand as they started making their exit among the crowd, Syndra knew her way around the mist even with her eyes closed and as a deterrent she was extremely powerful as when they were about to bump into someone they would always make way for Syndra as almost everyone in the academy recognized her not only for her appearance but because of her family influence.

Because of all this their exit was extremely quick almost as if they weren’t obstructed at all, no one followed them either as they made their way extremely mindful of Syndra who was higher than them.

David was very happy about all of that and felt that Syndra was very reliable.

Valentia notice this as well, and for some reason felt as if her role was taken away from her, she couldn’t really have done anything in this case as Syndra was simply far more influential, her family influence was so strong that it even reached other countries such as the Nohrn kingdom, her protection would always be better preferred making Valentia feel slightly useless.

Because Valentia thought Syndra as her rival she always tried to help her juniors whenever she could to not fall behind, but in the end she couldn’t match Syndra’s confident and reliable protection, even Valentia was at times saved by Syndra influence without her knowing.

It made her want to sigh, but she held it in as they walked.

-Senior Syndra, how did you know we were there?

David asked, his use of senior momentarily made Syndra feel helpless as she really just wanted him to call her by her name like earlier, but she kept it hidden and answered simply.

-Word of mouth has circulating very fast about the events happening inside the training grounds, as soon as I heard your and Valentia’s name I came as fast as I could to see, Olga and Hyura also heard about it, but they were both too busy to come and see.

-I see.

David nodded, they continued to talk as they walked, they mostly talked about what happened in the training grounds Syndra was particularly interested about the Dragonkin Gehena and slightly worried about Mishalka.

Ever since David and Valentia came to the trainings grounds only 3 hours past, it was about 10:00 Am at the moment, they had agreed that their tour would end at midday meaning at 12 o’clock meaning 2 hours were still left.

Trying to think of a place to go, Valentia finally thought about one place as her stomach started to grumble.

-Lets go to the cafeteria!

Her suggestion was met with good support as both Syndra and David were actually pretty hungry, David and Valentia had exerted themselves only a few minutes ago causing their energy to drain while Syndra had just come out of her own daily training routine, she originally was about to go to the cafeteria to eat something, but since she heard something about David and Valentia she instead decided to go to them first.

And just like the three of them decided to go to the cafeteria.

As they walked Valentia couldn’t help but notice more and more how close David and Syndra were to each other in such a short span of time, they still kept up an arm’s length of social manners but for some reason Valentia could also feel a weird tension between them, Syndra especially reacted more sensitively when it came to David which she already noticed earlier.

Her suspicions only started to get more and more stronger but she kept them to herself as they arrived in the cafeteria.
