Slave Company Chapter 84 Spark

In a sense, Avian could not blame these primitive kobolds, it’s not as if they ate greenery all the time even though they were omnivores, their diet mainly consisted of meat after all that they caught using their traps, it was only when they needed any bit of food that they would resort to eating anything they could find in the wild.

It was Avian’s mistake to think that they were knowledgeable about plants when they ordinarily weren’t, which is why he decided to demonstrate them their mistake.

Why did Avian care so much?

Well, it was all because it was him who made these kobolds do this, he thought everything would have been fine.

But he was wrong.

If he let this happen and had them eat poisonous plants to die a horrible death, what would have been the point of him showing pity and having them sustain themselves, then to continue building that palace and have them starve to death?

When Avian did something and had someone do it, he always stressed the idea that they had to do it right.

Calling a single Wind Swallow, it directly came to him and landed on the colorful mushroom Avian held in his hand, under Avian’s orders it started eating the mushroom taking a tiny out of it as it swallowed a piece of it whole.

The kobolds watched this happen not understanding, but soon enough they all understood as something very horrendous started to occur to the Wind Swallow after it a ate a tiny piece of the colorful mushroom.

This mushroom’s true name was actually Boiling Death mushroom.

A very to the point name, as the effects of this mushroom were exactly what it was called.

The Wind Swallow, first started to jerk and shake as soon as it ate the mushroom, not able to control its body it fell on the ground from Avian’s hand before jerking and shaking on the ground, its eyes turning red as blood started to flood out of them before its green feathers started to fall out revealing its tender skin that too started to change as huge boils started to appear one after another in a terrifying fashion.

These boils grew at an extreme fast pace until finally they exploded bringing forth a mist of blood and pus with very faint signs of spores that traveled outward following the wind, leaving the pitiful Wind Swallow dead while the Kobolds were slightly terrified.

-Do you see what I mean now? If any of you had eaten this, do you understand what would have happened to you?

-…

The kobolds stayed silent, with a few of them even bowing them before everyone else followed suit.

Kett who was ordered to stand felt conflicted if he should bow down or not, but Avian turned to him before telling him.

-Bring at least 10 of your smartest Kobolds, I will tell which plants are edible and inedible, their task will be to record all this knowledge and make sure that in the future that every single food is going to be gathered will be going through them first thoroughly checked before it is made sure that it is not poisonous or has any other effect, if you ever find a plant or anything else you don’t know about do the exact thing I did and feed it to an animal first to see before you try it yourself.

-Yes! My lord!

Following Avian’s orders, he sent 16 kobolds to Avian who were all shamans which basically meant they were the most intelligent kobolds in their tribe since it took some higher degree of intelligence to understand magic.

Avian didn’t dawdle either and taught these kobolds about which plants were edible and which were not, the kobolds all listened to Avian fervently as they recorded all the new knowledge Avian conveyed to them onto animal skins while making very precise illustrations of the plants in question.

They didn’t ask Avian anything and simply wrote down and remembered everything Avian told them, which was easy for Avian since he didn’t need to do anything, but talk.

The reason Avian knew so much about this was also again the research he did for the past years to survive in this world.

Avian had basic to advanced level botanical knowledge.

He learned those things so that he wouldn’t starve if he ever ended up in a situation where he ended up inside a forest alone.

Now he was teaching this knowledge to these kobolds something Avian didn’t know if he should have doing considering they were technically enemies since they were mistaking Avian for their god, but since they did take care of Avian, he felt he owed them a bit so he brushed it aside as he taught them.

These kobolds were also very quick and nimble learners, going through the pile of food already to throw away the plants that weren’t edible, the kobolds were also still gathering anything they thought was edible making a lot more work for Avian as he described each and individual plant, if it was edible or not, how to eat it and how to prepare it.

The fanatical looks of the kobold shamans only increased the more he taught them.

It took Avian 5 hours of uninterrupted explaining before no new plants were found in the pile and the kobold shamans were at work separating the non-edible from the edibles also educating the rest of the kobolds about plants and which ones they should and shouldn’t pick.

Avian was very hungry after that 5-hour long lecture, thinking this was enough and he had done more than enough to make up for everything.

He went to the pile and took a random horned rabbit and a few suitable wild vegetables to make a soup.

He only lamented that he couldn’t get fresh bread as all the bread he had was hard bread for long term storage.

But as he was doing that, he suddenly noticed an item that was just now thrown into the pile near him.

It was a long stocky plant with a big fluffy top full of seeds that came off extremely easily.

The bottom of the plant also had a very thick root that was wet and slimy from being in super wet soil.

Avian instantly recognized this plant as well, as it could actually be used to make bread!

-Who brought this plant!

Avian said, pulling everyone’s attention once more, not that no one was paying him attention as the Kobolds simply could not get enough of looking at Avian who was their god.

Hearing his questions, the Kobolds momentarily looked at each other before one kobold who was caked in dirt and mud came out raising his hand.

-Me! Me! Me!

It was an ordinary kobold Avian could find anywhere, but Avian looked at it a lot more pleased which was noticed by everyone as they watched what was happening.

-Good job…uh…what’s your name?

The random kobold was exhilarated when his god asked him what his name was, he was already bowing, but now he was even shaking.

-My name is Med, my lord!

-Okay Med, take a lot of kobolds and bring me this plant you just brought, I know that the place you got it from is a swamp and that there are a lot more that grow there, together with those kobolds bring as much as you can understand?

-Yes! I understand! Your wish is my command!

After that Med stepped away to take a lot of kobolds to return to the swamp where he got this plant from, a lot of kobolds went with Med as they all saw how pleased Avian looked when he mentioned the plant which is why they wanted to get more so they would be praised like Med and maybe have their names remembered by their god!

Of course there was a limit to how many could go which is why a lot of Kobolds were disappointed when they couldn’t leave with Med as they all had their own jobs to do.

This didn’t mean there was no other way to get Avian’s favor as Avian soon started to do something else that garnered more attention.

Since Avian had sent the Kobolds to bring him more of that plant which he could use to bake bread, he was intending on making the necessary equipment for baking.

And to do that he needed to make an oven!

Making an oven was easy as he knew how to do it just by know how an oven functioned.

He merely needed mud and bricks, both of which was plenty as he could use the Kobolds to make and gather those materials while he just commanded them what to do.

Which is what happened exactly as he called for kobold craftsmen who could do this for him, the kobold craftsmen immediately responded to Avian’s call as he instructed them on what to do and what he wanted them to do.

The concept of an oven was completely foreign thing for these kobold craftsmen, but they immediately understood its function by how it was built, this sort of knowledge even though it was just cooking related still excited the Kobold craftsmen a lot as they learned a lot from it that they could use later for other things.

But first they had to build it as that was their god’s desire, something they put first and foremost as Kobolds.

With that done, Avian shifted his attention to the plant which was still in its original state, he needed to process it, turn the seeds into flour, then dough before being able to bake it.

Luckily just shaking the stocky plant separated the seeds without anything extra, which is why he focused more on the millstone he would create.

Making an efficient would require cutting stone precisely though, which would take time if he left it to the Kobolds no matter how skilled they were, Avian considered if he should just grind the seeds by hand, until he realized that he could actually just built it himself.

-(Why do I need to hide my abilities from these Kobolds? There is no point is there?)

Avian reasoned, and with further thinking he immediately convinced himself as he started to use his blood abilities to craft the parts of the Millstone.

Avian created an extremely sharp blade of blood and using his [Aura] he cut through stone like butter as he got the perfect circular shape of the top while carving in the handle to turn it.

The Kobolds were all witness to this and were even more awed when they saw their god’s power for the first time, that cut stone like it was nothing something Kett also saw and surprised by as not even he could do this even though he also was capable of [Aura].

The main difference was that his control over [Aura] was not as precise as Avian’s which is why he couldn’t do it.

Anyways, seeing their god working on something, a few of the Kobold craftsmen who were free watched what he was building as they felt curious, it took only 10 more minutes before it was finished and the Millstone was made.

Avian took the seeds of the plant and put them inside the hole at the top of the Millstone.

Calling a random kobold over he told him to turn the lever of the Millstone in a circle which is what he did, finally showing the use of the machine as gray flour came out of the sides of the Mill all grinded up before gathering into the circular stone pocket collecting everything that came out.

The gray powder was something the kobolds had seen for the first time as none of them knew what bread was since they never ate it before.

This was the beginning that changed their culture and the way of life as Avian opened the door of civilization, changing these simple hunter, gatherers into soldiers and farmers.

I do believe that he literally had bread with his supper a chapter or two ago, so the statement that the kobolds didn’t know what bread was and had never had it before is certainly an exaggeration
