Kings Glaive Chapter 27 Path Finder

The world of Kings Glaive, Orbis is a huge ginormous place with all kinds of peculiarities and mysteries, nobody knows how long this world has been in existence, but what everyone does know is that magic surrounds the people everywhere.

The 3 casting methods I had explained are merely the most basic of the basic that use the fundamental law of the universe to operate, they are the go to method of casting magic without tools, but if I started to explain more, I could even tell you ways one can use magic without the use of those 3 casting methods and even though those methods do cause magic, they are not what is commonly defined as “True Magic” but merely a imitation or extrapolation of those casting methods.

Any skill in particular once it breaches its beginner level status from level 3 to level 4 becomes in a sense “magical” some skills even go beyond what is magical while others try to imitate the previous casting methods through translating them into their own arts.

[Singers], [Dancers] and [Bards] for example are the most fitting in this case since they don’t directly use magic but control and orchestrate it with limited effects, artistic classes in general are the true imitators of magic while most combat and production classes are trailblazers who define their own way when it comes to magic.

But enough with that there was still much I had to see.

I looked over her other stats.

She had fairly high attributes even though she was low level, it was obvious that she had trained those attributes, her [Intellect] especially had been trained to the limit for her current evolutionary rank which was impressive, together with other attributes which were to some degree trained as well, only [Strength] and [Constitution] remained untrained but it was understandable since Sonnia seemed to purely focus on only intelligence-type or academic-type skills seeing that almost every single one of her skills were those types other then the ones she acquired from her [Herbalist] class and was either at intermediate rank or at advanced rank.

If I had to explain what kind of build Sonnia was using in RPG terms then I would say she was the pure intelligence-type with no combat capability whatsoever which was a unpopular build and also extremely odd to see since people in world would at least have 1 offensive oriented skill to protect themselves.

Most people who play the game always strike a balance when it comes to learning skills so they don’t become too weak in a single area and end up getting into a tricky situation, of course learning a lot of skills has the added effect of cutting yourself too thin, but in reality it isn’t bad to learn a lot of skills if you can manage it, learning more skills while demanding can give you the assurance to be able to deal with a lot of situations by yourself making it so you don’t have to rely on others to accomplish the task.

Even [Warriors] would take the opportunity to learn normal skills like [Literacy], [Language], [History] or [Calligraphy].

Even though these are all academic skills they can still become extremely useful on your travels like most normal skills usually are.

But being focused on one area isn’t too bad either since it makes you extremely good in whatever it is you focus on making your path to success much easier, that is if you also manage to acquire somebody else who can fill the areas you are lacking in, you cannot live all on your own after all, somebody has to bake the bread, sew clothes and forge swords.

[Merchants] in this case are good at using others, but even then most [Merchants] would still learn a few tricks in case of emergency like the weapon mastery skills or athletic skills.

Before I died I had seen builds such as close-quarter [Merchants] in forums all over the internet when the game was famous world wide, the benefit of such build would be to be able to stand your ground whenever something unexpected happened or whenever you didn’t have anybody to use like slaves or mercenaries to protect you.

Your actually [Merchant] abilities would be weakened but at least they wouldn’t disappear since you could still continue on peddling your goods around even if it was limited to your low skill level.

Basically what it comes down towards is safety, almost everyone in this world carries at the very least a combat dagger no matter where they go, they don’t carry it because they want to use it on someone they carry it as a sign to show that they are going to use it if they are forced to as a sort of deterrent.

Power is important and the power of violence is a authority in on itself, for a person to be able to use somebody they need the necessary power or authority to make the opposing person yield, talking or bribing can work on a lot of people but there are also a lot of people or creatures that do not accept speech or benefits no matter what.

And since this law is true in almost any ordinary society then it makes me wonder on whose authority Sonnia had relied on to consistently raise her skill levels to such a high degree, even the lowest [Thief] at this moment could kill her in one strike using a dagger, if Sonnia lived for 16 years without ever participating in a violent conflict then she must have been extremely well protected by someone if she could wholeheartedly focus on one area only…

And the fact that she is here left to the whims of fate makes me think that the authority she relied on is either no longer protecting her or incapable of doing so.

-Good god, with whom did I just make a [Contract] with…

I sighed, stopping my train of thought as there was no need to think anymore since it wouldn’t get me anywhere and it was likely that I would hear of it anyways after she woke up.

Milky who had just silently observing up until now mildly reacted to me but quickly quieted down some more, she must have noticed that I was thinking about something and not purposely ignoring her which is why she didn’t interrupt me, I briefly wondered where she had picked up such a acute sense of understanding, but after thinking about who partner was, maybe it was common for her to react like this whenever Sonnia was thinking about something difficult.

Never the less there were only a few things now left for me to observe which were the title and the talent section of the window.

Titles are something I hadn’t explained yet since I had none and had neither encountered them just yet.

But it is suffice to say that titles are just as important as attributes, talents, racial abilities and skills, if they weren’t important they wouldn’t be listed within the status window where everything listed is a clear indication of power and ability.

What titles basically do is give bonuses to attributes, skills or other areas to boost that person.

They are bestowed by the world itself, when it sees someone accomplishing something noteworthy that person receives a title, a person can only equip 3 titles at a time and can only change them 3 times a day or 3 times every 24 hours, beyond that they can have as many titles as they want but they will stay inactive if they are not equipped, titles do not level up but they can evolve if they meet the right requirement.

The title Sonnia currently has for example the [Accomplished Merchant] title gives her a great bonus to all of her [Merchant] related skills.

To acquire this title you first have to have had the [Rookie Merchant] title and then the [Experienced Merchant] title before being able to get the [Accomplished Merchant].

To acquire the [Rookie Merchant] title a person has to have made at least 50 beginner level [Contracts] while the [Experienced Merchant] demands for 100 intermediate level [Contracts] until finally you need 200 advanced level [Contracts] to get [Accomplished Merchant], each of those [Contracts] need to be of a certain value to count, since the world itself manages all of the titles it is impossible to swindle the world out of a title.

In this world the people are all aware of the titles the world bestows to them and how to equip and unequip them as they can be equipped and unequipped by something as simple as thinking about wanting to turn them on or off.

There is a reason for wanting to turn off a title since not all titles are actually beneficial, [Wolf Hunter] for example gives you a 10% bonus damage to all [Wolf] species but at the same time it makes it so that all [Wolves] will have heightened hostility against you as soon as they meet you if you have the title equipped.

There are many titles who have negatives such as this, some even outright force you to do something like [Adjudicator] which says that you are not allowed to commit or let any evil happen in front of you, if you do the title will forever be gone together with its effect which is a bonus 50% to all of your damage and effects be it through skill or spells and a bonus 20% in attributes.

[Adjudicator] has also the added effect of being unable to be turned off no matter what, permanently taking a spot in your title slots until you break its condition and lose it forever.

[Adjudicator] isn’t the only title that has such a effect either, most of the really bizarre or powerful titles have a similar effects of not being able to be turned off and needing a condition to be met first before being able to be turned off, this is a way of balancing those titles to not turn someone into overwhelmingly powerful entity which works quite effectively really when most powerful titles become completely inaccessible once they had been used once.

There were a lot of titles I wanted within my mind most of which were easily obtained even if they took a bit of time, eventually when I get out of here those titles would be one of my priorities to obtain if I wanted to grow stronger.

Finally the talent section.

Putting my eyes to it I had already taken notice of the talent Sonnia possessed the moment I looked at her status window.

What exactly talents are is easy to explain, in this world everyone is born with a talent or two, sometimes talents can also be discovered in time which is a process of randomly getting assigned a talent when waking up the next day, the maximum amount of talents you can have is 3 regardless of anything.

Talents are one of the most important aspects of the game, usually focusing your entire build around a talent is well advised but since its impossible to know your talent without having some kind of means to discovering it yourself like my [Phantom Eyes] for example which is my “talent” that allows me to see the talent of others and many more things, you would need something similar to that which you can only acquire at the late stages of the game in forms of a single item and a spell respectively called [Monocle Of Potential] and [Divine Talentl which comes from the school of divination magic.

By the point you acquire the means of seeing your talent you would have already constructed a solid skill build for yourself that matches with your racial ability, by that point giving up on the talent isn’t rare and almost always the certainty.

In the rare few cases where you do discover your talent before acquiring the means of seeing for yourself you are likely to have discovered either because you noticed that your growth in a certain area is extremely fast or because the talent is extremely obvious.

This is the distinction of 2 forms of talents that exist, which are known as the common talents and the unique talents.

My [Phantom Eyes] is obviously considered a unique talent since its extremely obvious in what it does, it even explains itself through the status window when I tap it.

Sonnia’s talent [Path Finder] is also equally unique, it also made me instantly understand how it was that they were able to escape that quickly from their pursuers and find secret hide out underneath the church.

The whole time it wasn’t that Sonnia concretely knew anything at all, she was actually lead this entire time by her talent towards none other then me.
